Job Summary

Langan is seeking an Engineering Technician to join its collaborative team in Pittsburgh, PA. This individual will serve a key function in providing assistance with identifying, planning, scheduling, and performing field site visits related to encroachment inquiries and excavation plans submitted via the state one-call system dig tickets. In this role, you will have the opportunity to gain experience in asset management and mapping of subsurface infrastructure utilizing digital solutions.

Job Responsibilities

Assist with conducting data review and field site visits in support of responding to utility dig tickets or encroachment requests;
Review historical deeds, easements, and design records to understand asset/land ownership;
Draft encroachment agreements and exhibits for client review and approval;
Coordinate, schedule, and implement required field support;
Monitor and conduct oversight of encroachment work (e.g. excavation contractors);
Interact with property owners, other pipeline company representatives, and local public representatives;
Observe out of service pipelines/rights-of-way and support maintenance as-needed;
Identify critical requests and other pressing situations and respond appropriately by initiating prescribed response procedures and expediting communications with project team, clients, and third-parties;
Complete and maintain required reports and logs;
Utilize GIS, AutoCAD, and other digital software solutions to document field work;
Assist in right-of-way reconnaissance and mapping updates;
Attend public meetings and client/team meetings;
Possess and demonstrate a strong commitment to personal and job safety; and
Performs other duties as requested.

Qualifications

Associate's degree required; Bachelor’s degree in engineering, geology, environmental science, or related area preferred;
A minimum of two (2) years of related experience that would provide the required knowledge and skills to perform the responsibilities of this position;
Live in Pittsburgh, PA or within a 40-mile radius of Pittsburgh, PA;
Strong mechanical aptitude;
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products as well as GIS and ticket management systems (e.g. ERSI Webmap and Irth’s Utilisphere software, or similar);
Have experience using geophysical equipment and applications, such as magnetometers and radio-detection units;
Strong attention to detail with excellent judgment capabilities related to land records (e.g., deeds, as-builts, easements, etc.);
Ability to prioritize and respond to multiple requests from several sources and track a constantly evolving work schedule;
Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interface effectively with property owners, regulatory agencies, public officials, and contractors;
Possess a valid driver’s license in good standing and reliable transportation access to remote job site locations;
Ability to travel and stay overnight for work; and
Availability to work overtime, evenings, and weekends as needed.
