Congratulations 2021 Award Recipients!

The 2021 Award Recipients have been announced and are ready to celebrate at the E-week awards banquet!  Join them on February 19th and say Congratulations in person.

  • Civil Engineering Achievement Award: I-579 Urban Open Space Cap Project - PennDOT Engineering District 11, HDR
  • Award of Merit: Kenmawr Bridge Replacement Project
  • Award of Merit: PWSA Stormwater Code & Ordinance Review
  • Sustainability Award: Glasshouse, Station Square, Pittsburgh 
  • Journalism Award: ESWP, Pittsburgh Engineer magazine CE articles
  • Employer Recognition Award: McKim & Creed Inc.
  • Young Civil Engineer of the Year: Shirley Tang, PE – A.G.E.S., Inc.
  • Professor of the Year: Xinchao (Steven) Wei - Slippery Rock University
  • Civil Engineer of the Year: Kimberly Kennedy, PE - ALCOSAN


STUDENT AWARD FOUNDATION RECIPIENTS

  • American Bridge Leadership Award goes to Kelby Kramer, senior at CMU pursuing BS in Civil & Environmental Engineering and Engineering & Public Policy.
  • Italo V (Ody) Mackin Achievement Award goes to Ryan Hess, senior at The Ohio State University pursuing BS in Civil Engineering with a focus on traffic engineering.
  • ASCE Achievement Award goes to Jacob Diehl, senior at the University of Pittsburgh in Johnstown pursuing BS in Civil Engineering.
  • ASCE Achievement Award goes to Cain Pfoutz, sophomore at the University of Pittsburgh pursuing BS in Civil Engineering with a focus on Construction Management.


ASCE Pittsburgh recognizes projects, people, and employers for their achievements and contributions to the Section and the civil engineering practice. These awards are given annually during Engineers Week to celebrate and raise public awareness about civil engineering and the contributions that civil engineers make to our society. 

PROJECT Award Nomination Categories are:

  • Civil Engineering Achievement Award
  • Award of Merit
  • Sustainability Award

For project awards, submit a 1-page nomination letter from an organization or project manager describing how the nominee meets the award criteria, a project summary (2 pages max), a 100-word abstract, and one or more project photos.

PEOPLE Award Nomination Categories are:

  • Service to the People Award
  • Journalism Award
  • Michael A. Gross Meritorious Service to Pittsburgh Section Award
  • Professor of the Year Award
  • Young Government Civil Engineer of the Year Award
  • Government Engineer of the Year Award
  • Young Civil Engineer of the Year Award
  • Civil Engineer of the Year Award
  • Distinguished Engineer of the Year Award

For people awards, submit a 1-page nomination letter from an organization or supervisor describing how the nominee meets the award criteria, a resume (2 pages max), a 100-word bio, and a color headshot  

EMPLOYER Award Nomination Category is:

  • Employer Recognition Award

For the employer award, submit a 1-page nomination letter from an organization or employee describing how the nominee meets the award criteria,.an organizational summary (2 pages max), a 100-word abstract, and a company logo.

Submit a single pdf file containing all required items and name the file as AwardName-NomineeName-2021.pdf

About Student Awards Foundation

The ASCE Pittsburgh Section’s Student Awards Foundation presents cash awards to students each year for the American Bridge Leadership Award, Italo V. (Ody) Mackin Achievement Award, and ASCE Achievement Awards. These awards recognize outstanding civil engineering students preparing to be future leaders of the profession.

Thanks to the donation by American Bridge, Mackin Engineering Company and all the generous contributions from the ASCE membership.

Applications for the 2022-2023 SAF awards are Due January 9th. Hard copy and electronic submissions accepted.  See Application Form for details.
