CECorps, which is a partnership between ASCE and EWB to serve low income communities in the USA, is looking to form a team of 5-7 volunteers (from either ASCE or EWB, students or professionals) to work on a current project in Foxburg PA. At least 1 volunteer needs to be a PE in PA to oversee the designs. This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to get involved with a local community or a young professional looking to expand their engineering experience. The project will span the course of 1-1.5 years with an average time commitment of one weekend per month. ASCE's liability insurance will cover volunteers.
As part of a 2017 community development block grant (CDBG), Foxburg is looking to do roadway improvements to North Palmer Ave. Foxburg is currently waiting on an environmental review by the County before proceeding. In addition, the CDBG office is requiring that an engineering study be done prior to the milling and repaving. There are no available funds either within the town budget or allowable within the grant to conduct the necessary engineering study for repaving. The scope of work for the engineering study mainly includes stormwater management; slope stabilization and curb and gutter designed as needed. Sewer line replacement may also be coordinated as part of this project.
Anyone interested please email Erin at elfeichtner@gmail.com with questions or to indicate their interest in further information. A kickoff call will be held by the end of November with CECorps and the interested project team.
