Just came from seeing Mrs. D'Appolonia and meeting some of Dr. D'Appolonia's children and extended family.  What a wonderful legacy!  Not only a Geo-Legend but also a dynamo to the end: he went ice skating last winter and attended technical seminars this past summer all the while still bestowing his "monitored decisions" approach and enticing colleagues to elevate the profession in technical rigor and innovative expansion.

    He will be sorely missed...

As one of many who had the pleasure of knowing D'App,  I am deeply saddened by his passing. He was a brilliant engineer, mentor and a gracious man. He will be greatly missed.

I worked for D'App from 1969 to 1977. His firm was an exciting place to be for a young Geotechnical Engineer. I have always been proud to say that I knew him and was associated with his Engineering Firm.

A giant in civil engineering.  Did not know him well, but each time I was in his presence I found him to be a humble man who was very interested in the work others were doing.
