Emerging Technologies in Engineering and Construction

The engineering and construction industries have seen a rapid growth of technology over the past few years, two of the most notable being drones and 3D laser scanning. The use of drones and laser scanning in construction have allowed common tasks to be accomplished cheaper, faster, and safer. Join the ASCE Pittsburgh Section as our speaker, Rob Sinclair, discusses some of the advancements and uses of this technology within the civil engineering industry. Also, we will hear about some of Rob’s experience utilizing this technology to preserve history in a small medieval town in Tuscany Italy.

Rob Sinclair is the Corporate Design Technology Manager for Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC) in Pittsburgh, PA.  Rob brings over 20 years of design and technology related experience to the civil infrastructure field.  In his current role, Rob is responsible to provide support and training to 24 offices and over 450 software users.  He is also responsible for creating and maintain company standards and workflows. He is passionate about technology and enjoys staying on the forefront of emerging industry trends.  He is a FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot, and has helped implement the UAV program at CEC.  Rob is a Civil 3D and AutoCAD Certified Professional and regularly teaches his piers how to use products like Civil 3D, InfraWorks, and ReCap most effectively.
