“The Structural Engineers Role in Urban Search and Rescue”

Presented By:

Thomas Anthony, PE – Markosky Engineering Group

The Pennsylvania Urban Search and Rescue Strike Team 1 is the regional asset operating under the PA Region 13 Counter-Terrorism Task Force and PEMA covering all of Western PA. The Urban Search and Rescue team responds to large scale incidents such as building collapses to support local emergency responders. One such incident in July in Washington, PA will be discussed.

This presentation will include information about the responsibilities of Urban Search and Rescue, including stabilization of individuals in confined spaces, heavy or complex structure collapses, technical rescues, and response to large scale incidents. Come learn about how structural engineers play an important role in this field and how you can get involved!
