The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), the world’s largest pre-college science competition, is coming to Pittsburgh May 10 – 15, 2015 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. This competition brings 1700 students in grades 9-12 from 70 countries, regions and territories. These are the best and brightest in the world, having won at local, regional, state and national fairs to get here.
ISEF provides a wonderful opportunity for encouraging students to pursue careers in science and engineering. The students consistently rank talking with the judges and volunteers as the high point of their experience. These students are our future leaders, scientists, engineers and doctors. The positive energy in the exhibit halls with the students is inspiring!
We need your involvement to recruit judges from the American Society of Civil Engineers, Pittsburgh Section for this event. The commitment is for the evening of Tuesday May 12 (training, dinner, project preview) and Wednesday May 13 (actual judging). Judges include university faculty, industrial scientists and engineers, representatives of private and federal research centers and agencies, and medical researchers. The qualifications are a degree with six or more years of professional experience or a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent and desire to encourage our students. There are also many opportunities for general volunteers and in particular, interpreters. Parking, refreshments, and enjoyable meals are provided.
